Conditions
The Temple BMT Program treats patients with acute leukemia and other blood malignancies from the time of their diagnosis through a bone marrow transplant, should one be needed. Donor transplants may use either matched related or matched unrelated donors. Recently, we have begun to perform haploidentical transplants for those patients without other donors.
Indications for Leukemia Therapy in our program:
- Acute myelogenous leukemia
- Acute lymphoid leukemia
Indications for Autologous Transplant:
- Acute myelogenous leukemia, in complete remission
- Relapsed or high-risk Hodgkin's disease
- Relapsed or high-risk, low, intermediate or high-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
- Stage II or III multiple myeloma
- Relapsed germ cell/testicular tumors
- Primary amyloidosis
Allogeneic transplants or syngeneic transplants are available for patients with HLA identical donors or identical twin donors for the following diseases:
- Severe aplastic anemia or paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria
- Chronic myelogenous leukemia in chronic or accelerated phase not responding to kinase therapy
- Preleukemic and/or myelodysplastic syndromes
- Acute myelogenous leukemia in complete remission or early relapse
- Acute lymphoblastic leukemia in complete remission or early relapse
- Relapsed Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas
- Relapsed multiple myeloma
- Chronic lymphatic leukemia Rai Stage II-III
