What to Expect Your First Visit
The initial visit that you will have in the BMT clinic is sometimes referred to as the intake visit. During this visit, you will meet with one of the BMT physicians, the Financial Coordinator and your Transplant Coordinator. You will also meet some of the BMT nurses. The physician will take a history of your disease. All records from your primary physician will also be reviewed. Some of the same questions that you were asked before will be asked again in order to ensure that your evaluation will be completely accurate. The areas that will require special attention include: your general state of health; past blood transfusions; exposure to radiation; past and present infections; episodes of bleeding. You will also have blood drawn to determine your current state of health.
